- What does Lutheran Theology teach?
Without reservation, we accept the Bible (Old and New Testament Scriptures) as the written Word of God and the only rule of faith and practice. The Gospel, the heart and core of our beliefs and teachings, is the good news of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection to atone for the sins of the world. We believe that sinners are made right by God by grace alone (sola gratia), through faith alone (sola fide), on the basis of Scripture alone (sola scriptura). The Lutheran church derives its name from Martin Luther, an Augustinian monk. Luther is responsible for initiating the Reformation by posting The 95 Theses at Wittenburg's Castle Church in 1517.
