This course is the fundamental precursor to all other science classes at Lutheran High School.
A freshmen or sophomore level class that stresses analysis and
critical thinking skills. Major topics are rocks/minerals,
weathering, erosion, plate tectonics, atmospheric changes,
shaping of the earth's surfaces, space and space travel. This
class involves lab work and written lab reports.
Laboratory work will focus on using the scientific method to
investigate these concepts.
BIOLOGY
PREREQUISITE:
EARTH/SPACE
This is a year long lab course. Students will be introduced to
the animal and plant kingdoms showing the diversity of God’s
created world. They will develop an understanding of the
following: a.) life processes at the cellular and molecular
levels, b.) realize the effects of man upon God’s created
environment and c.) systems of the human body – their structure
and function. This class involves extensive lab work and written
lab reports. Laboratory work will focus on using the scientific
method to investigate these concepts.
CHEMISTRY
PREREQUISITE: ALGEBRA I, BIOLOGY
This is a year long
lab course. This class provides students with a modern view of
the fundamental concepts of chemistry. Topics include matter and
energy, atomic structure, bonding, the periodic table, acids,
bases, ionization and chemical reactions. There is extensive lab
work with written lab reports.
PHYSICS
PREREQUISITE: ALGEBRA II, CHEMISTRY
This is a full year lab course which
covers the fundamental concepts of physics. The major topics
covered are mechanics, energy, light, electricity, magnetism,
waves, and motion.
Lab work is required with written lab reports.
